Home›Industrials›Railroads›United States Railroads›South Atlantic RailroadsGroupSouth Atlantic RailroadsThis child group collects United States Railroads members headquartered or historically based in the South Atlantic Census division (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida), one of the two largest of the nine divisional child groups this atlas splits the parent group into. It spans modern Class I carriers headquartered in the division (Norfolk Southern Corporation of Atlanta, CSX Corporation of Jacksonville, Amtrak of Washington), historic Southeastern trunk lines (Southern Railway, the Seaboard Air Line Railroad, the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad and their successor the Seaboard System Railroad, the Western and Atlantic Railroad, the Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad, the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company), the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, and the Delaware and Hudson Railway and Erie Lackawanna Railway. At 64 members it sits under this atlas's oversized-group threshold and needs no further split at this time.FactsBrowse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsComparisonUN M49 RegionWell-attestedNorthern America 1GICS SectorWell-attestedIndustrials 2Browse ByAll South Atlantic RailroadsSouth Atlantic Railroads64 entriesSouth Atlantic RailroadsFilter Results64 entriesIndustryAllBanking Industry (1)Railroad Industry (62)Shipping and Logistics Industry (2)Company TypeAllAmerican Class I freight railroad holding company (1)Independent agency of the United States government (1)Public (1)Public transport network (1)Railway company (22)Railway line (2)FoundedAll1827 (1)1830 (1)1834 (1)1835 (1)1836 (3)1851 (1)1853 (1)1854 (1)1856 (3)1857 (2)1860 (1)1866 (1)1873 (1)1881 (1)1882 (1)1883 (2)1885 (2)1886 (2)1887 (2)1888 (1)1889 (1)1890 (2)1894 (2)1895 (2)1896 (2)1898 (1)1900 (1)1901 (1)1902 (1)1905 (2)1915 (1)1921 (1)1926 (2)1971 (1)1980 (2)1982 (2)1983 (1)1986 (2)1989 (1)1994 (1)2004 (1)Sector (GICS)AllRailroads (64)South Atlantic Railroads (64)United States Railroads (64)DissolvedAll1870 (2)1878 (2)1886 (1)1887 (1)1890 (1)1891 (3)1896 (1)1898 (1)1900 (1)1901 (3)1902 (1)1906 (1)1911 (1)1917 (1)1932 (1)1941 (1)1945 (1)1962 (1)1963 (2)1967 (2)1971 (1)1976 (1)1982 (3)1983 (1)1986 (1)1987 (1)1988 (1)1991 (1)Headquartered InAllAtlanta (3)Augusta (1)Baltimore (2)Florida (3)Georgia (2)Maryland (1)Norfolk, Virginia (2)North Carolina (1)Panama City (1)Philadelphia (1)Richmond (3)South Carolina (14)Tennessee (1)United States (21)Virginia (2)Washington, D.C.
