This child group collects European Railroads members headquartered or based in Italy, spanning the modern state holding company (Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane), the two largest regional operators of northern Italy (Ferrovie Nord Milano and its successor Ferrovienord) and southern Italy (Ferrovie del Sud Est and Ferrovie Appulo Lucane), and the nineteenth century unification-era companies that first built the country's network (the Victor Emmanuel Railway, the Societa per le Strade Ferrate Meridionali, the Societa della Ferrovia Sicula Occidentale in Sicily). At 8 members it is well under this atlas's oversized-group threshold and needs no further split.
