Tuckman's stages of group development, also called the forming, storming, norming, performing model, was first proposed by Bruce Tuckman in 1965. Tuckman argued that these phases are all necessary and unavoidable for a team to grow, face challenges, tackle problems, find solutions, plan its work and deliver results, and this sequence of developmental stages has become known as the Tuckman ladder.
