Most of the essential elements of modern telecommunications, including mobile devices, network infrastructure, and processing components, are built from MOSFETs, metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors, and as of 2005 telecommunications equipment represented about 16.5 percent of the annual microprocessor market. The sector includes both established multinational corporations and specialized regional players such as India's HFCL.
