The global industry that manufactures heavy equipment and industrial machinery, heavy duty machines built to carry out construction and mining tasks such as earthwork, most visibly bulldozers, excavators, loaders and graders, which multiply the force workers can apply well beyond what manual labor alone could achieve. In 2025 the top ten manufacturers generated a combined 237 billion dollars in sales, led by Caterpillar of the United States at 37.8 billion dollars and 15.9 percent market share, Komatsu of Japan at 26.6 billion dollars and 11.2 percent, and John Deere of the United States at 12.9 billion dollars and 5.5 percent, with other major manufacturers based in China, Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Modern machinery increasingly incorporates electronics and software for fleet management, autonomous operation and enhanced safety.
