Bus Manufacturing Industry

Bus manufacturing is a sector of the automotive industry that manufactures buses and coaches, encompassing chassis builders, body manufacturers and integral manufacturers that produce complete vehicles. The industry traces its earliest origins to carriage building, with some manufacturers emerging from truck production, and historically developed through separate chassis and body construction until integral designs such as the AEC Routemaster combined the two. Bus manufacturing was reshaped again by the rise of van-derived buses in the 1980s, a shift toward low-floor designs for accessibility in the 1990s, and more recent adoption of electric, fuel cell and hybrid powertrains.
