The global automotive aftermarket industry that manufactures, remanufactures, distributes, retails and installs vehicle parts, chemicals, equipment and accessories after a vehicle's initial sale by its original manufacturer, serving both do it yourself customers who repair their own vehicles and do it for me customers who rely on professional repair shops. The United States aftermarket, the most developed in the world, was valued at approximately 516 billion dollars in 2025, contributing more than 1.9 percent of United States GDP and employing nearly five million people across manufacturers, distributors, retailers and repair shops, with online sales reaching 42.4 billion dollars in 2024. Other major national markets include Canada at 19.4 billion Canadian dollars, Australia at 5.2 billion Australian dollars in 2013, and Europe at 127 billion euros in 2015.
