HQM Sachsenring GmbH is a German company based in Zwickau, Saxony, that supplies vehicle frames, chassis and body parts to the automotive industry. It descends from VEB Sachsenring, a state-owned East German manufacturer that operated out of the former Auto Union factory in Zwickau and was one of the few vehicle makers in East Germany; its best known product was the Trabant, built from 1957 to 1991. The firm takes its name from the Sachsenring race track. After German reunification in 1990 it moved from a centrally planned, government-owned enterprise to a private corporation, and the successor Sachsenring AG spent three years in bankruptcy before Härterei und Qualitätsmanagement GmbH of Leipzig bought it in February 2006. Sachsenring no longer builds motor vehicles and now supplies parts for Volkswagen factory models such as the Golf and Passat.
