Saizeriya is a Japanese family style restaurant chain serving yoshoku, Western influenced Japanese cuisine with an Italian emphasis, founded in Saitama Prefecture in 1973 by Yasuhiko Shogaki, who took over a struggling restaurant while a student, converted it to Italian style food, and cut prices by 70 percent to build a loyal customer base. Headquartered in Yoshikawa, Saitama, the chain operates more than 750 stores across Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and mainland China, and trades on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
