Progress Rail is an American supplier of railroad and transit products and services, founded in 1982 and headquartered in Albertville, Alabama, and has been a fully owned subsidiary of Caterpillar since 2006. Originally established as a recycling operation, it grew into a major integrated supplier operating through Infrastructure and Rolling Stock divisions, offering remanufactured locomotives and railcars, track materials, signaling equipment, welding systems and recycling services. The company operates more than 175 facilities worldwide, employs more than 8,000 people, and includes subsidiaries such as Electro-Motive Diesel and Lincoln Industries.
