Polish State Railways

Polish State Railways, known by its Polish initials PKP, is the state-owned holding company at the head of the PKP Group, Poland's national railway conglomerate, headquartered at Warszawa Zachodnia station in Warsaw. First established on September 24, 1926, PKP was restructured in 2001 into its current holding-company form, separating rail infrastructure management from train operations. Wholly owned by the Polish State Treasury, PKP oversees subsidiaries including the passenger operator PKP Intercity, the freight carrier PKP Cargo and the commuter operator PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska, and is also among Poland's largest managers of real estate. The company employed roughly 8,200 people and generated just over one billion zloty in revenue in 2017.
