JPMorgan Chase & Co. is an American multinational bank formed by the 2000 merger of J.P. Morgan & Co., a banking house tracing back to financier J. Pierpont Morgan in the 19th century, and Chase Manhattan Corporation. Headquartered in New York City, it grew into the largest bank in the United States by assets and one of the largest in the world, offering investment banking, commercial banking, asset management and consumer banking under the Chase brand. During the 2008 financial crisis it acquired the failing Bear Stearns and the banking operations of Washington Mutual.
