John Pierpont Morgan (1837-1913) was an American financier and investment banker who, as head of J.P. Morgan and Co., dominated corporate finance on Wall Street during the Gilded Age, organizing the 1901 formation of United States Steel and driving a wave of industrial consolidations including General Electric and International Harvester.
