Jennings Brewery was founded as a family concern in 1828 in the village of Lorton in England's Lake District, later moving to the Castle Brewery in Cockermouth in 1874. It brewed ales using local lakeland water, malted Maris Otter barley, and whole-leaf hops. The brewery was bought by Wolverhampton & Dudley Breweries (later Marston's) in 2005, folded into a Marston's and Carlsberg UK joint venture in 2020, and closed in 2022; new owners bought the Cockermouth site and the Jennings brand in 2025 with plans to reopen it.
