Hull Brewery

Hull Brewery was a brewery in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, tracing back to 1782 when Thomas Ward and John Firbank built a brewery on the corner of Posterngate and Dagger Lane. Family ownership carried the business through several names, becoming Gleadow, Dibb and Co. in 1846 and incorporating as the Hull Brewery Company Limited in 1887. The company moved to a new, purpose-built brewery on Silvester Street in 1868 with a 24,000-gallon fermentation capacity and became known for Anchor Export, a beer formulated in 1949 to survive maritime shipment. Northern Foods bought the company in 1972 and Mansfield Brewery in 1982; brewing at the Silvester Street site ended in 1985.
