The George Muehlebach Brewing Company was a brewery that operated in Kansas City, Missouri, from 1868 to 1956, founded by Swiss immigrant George Muehlebach after he purchased the city Main Street Brewery in 1869. It grew into the largest brewery in the Kansas City area, moved to a new plant at 4th and Oak Streets after Prohibition in 1938, and nearly tripled its output during the Second World War. The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company bought the firm in 1956, retired the Muehlebach brand in 1973 and closed the old brewery the same year; the Muehlebach family also gave its name to the Muehlebach Hotel and to Muehlebach Field, later Kansas City Municipal Stadium.
