American engineer, statistician and management consultant regarded as the father of the modern quality movement. He modified Walter Shewhart's cycle into the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) cycle in the 1940s and was instrumental in revolutionizing Japanese industry after World War Two through his teachings on statistical process control, work later foundational to lean manufacturing and total quality management.
