Kaoru Ishikawa was a Japanese organizational theorist, born 13 July 1915 in Tokyo and died 16 April 1989. He was a professor in the engineering faculty at the University of Tokyo and later served as president of the Musashi Institute of Technology from 1978. He played a central role in Japan's quality management movement, developing the quality circle and the Ishikawa, or fishbone, diagram used to analyze the causes of industrial problems.
