Legal and compliance is the practice of making sure that people and organizations meet legal and regulatory requirements. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics describes compliance officers as workers who must understand the rules that affect an industry and make sure that organizations and individuals follow them. They may identify compliance risks and offer guidance, and they also might prepare reports, memos, and other documents. Compliance work therefore combines knowing the applicable rules, spotting risk, advising the organization, and documenting what is done.
