Max Levchin is a Ukrainian-born American entrepreneur who co-founded the online payments company PayPal in 1998, serving as its chief technology officer and leading its early fraud-prevention systems before eBay acquired the company in 2002. He later founded the data analytics firm Slide, sold to Google in 2010, and in 2012 co-founded the online lender Affirm, which offers point-of-sale installment loans as an alternative to traditional credit cards and which he has led as chief executive. He is frequently grouped among the so-called PayPal Mafia, the cohort of early PayPal employees and founders who went on to start or fund numerous other prominent technology companies.
