Vehicle is a general term for a machine designed for self propulsion, most often to transport people, cargo, or both. The category spans an unusually wide range of transport methods, from human powered and animal powered land transport through motorized vehicles and rail systems to cable transport, watercraft, amphibious vehicles, aircraft and even space vehicles. Land vehicles themselves are commonly classified by how they make contact with the ground, whether by wheels, tracks, rails or skis, or by non contact technologies such as maglev systems.
