A hardware store is a retail outlet that sells the goods people need to repair, maintain and improve a home, workshop or small business. Its range typically runs from fasteners, hand tools and power tools to keys, locks, hinges, chains, paint, plumbing and electrical supplies, cleaning products and housewares, together with lawn and garden items. Some countries call the same outlet a hardware shop, and many shoppers know it as a do-it-yourself or DIY store. Individual shops often add specialty departments shaped by the region or by the owner's interests, such as fishing and hunting supplies, pet food, farm and ranch goods including animal feed, marine supplies, pool chemicals, homebrewing and canning equipment.
