Social entrepreneurship is an approach in which individuals, groups, start up companies or entrepreneurs develop, fund and implement solutions to social, cultural or environmental problems. It is practiced across organizations that vary widely in size, aims and beliefs; where a conventional for profit entrepreneur typically measures performance through business metrics such as profit, revenue and share price, a social entrepreneur is usually part of a non profit or blends for profit goals with a positive return to society, and so measures success by different metrics, often in areas such as poverty alleviation, health care and community development.
