David Mackenzie Ogilvy (1911-1999) was a British advertising executive who founded the agency Ogilvy & Mather. After training at the Gallup research organization, he built a reputation for advertising campaigns grounded in detailed research into consumer behavior, producing well known work for clients including Rolls-Royce, Dove soap and Hathaway shirts. His research driven approach to persuasion earned him the nickname the Father of Advertising, and he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
