Frederick Miller was a German-American brewery owner in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who founded the Miller Brewing Company. Born Friedrich Johannes Miller in Riedlingen in the Kingdom of Württemberg in 1824, he learned the brewing trade at Sigmaringen in Germany, married Josephine Müller in 1853 and emigrated with his family to the United States in 1854, reaching Wisconsin in 1855. That year he bought the Plank Road Brewery in Milwaukee, which became the Miller Brewing Company. After Josephine died in 1860 he married Lisette Gross, and five children of that marriage survived infancy. Miller died of cancer in 1888 at the age of 63, and the company was then run by his three surviving sons and his son-in-law Carl. Grandsons through his daughters later became presidents of the firm.
