In 2016 Microsoft acquired the professional networking service LinkedIn for about 26.2 billion dollars, the largest acquisition in Microsoft's history at that time. The deal was framed around combining LinkedIn's professional network and data with Microsoft's own productivity and enterprise software, and LinkedIn continued to operate under its own brand and leadership after the deal closed.
