In 2012 Kraft Foods split into two separate publicly traded companies, Mondelez International, which held the global snack food brands, and Kraft Foods Group, which held the North American grocery business. The split separated a slower growing, cash generating grocery business from a faster growing global snacks business so that each could be valued and managed on its own terms.
