FAQs

Why is the financial services industry considered controversial?

Its power and scale remain an ongoing controversy in many industrialized Western economies.

The finance industry is described as holding extragovernmental power and operating at a scale that affects domestic politics and foreign relations, particularly through the commercial banks that provide market liquidity and brokerage for large public companies and multinational corporations. That power and scale remain an ongoing controversy in many industrialized Western economies. One example is the Occupy Wall Street protest movement in the United States in 2011.
