BlackRock, Inc. is an American investment management company headquartered in New York City, founded in 1988 by Larry Fink and seven co-founders as a fixed income risk management business within the Blackstone Group before becoming independent in 1994 and going public in 1999. It grew into the largest asset manager in the world by assets under management, particularly after its 2009 acquisition of Barclays Global Investors, which brought it the iShares exchange-traded fund business, and it is also known for Aladdin, a risk management and portfolio analytics platform used widely across the finance industry.
