Portland and Western Railroad

The Portland and Western Railroad is a 478 mile Class II railroad operating entirely within Oregon, founded in 1995 and headquartered in Salem, Oregon, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Genesee and Wyoming Inc. Its network runs from Astoria to Portland along the Columbia River and from Portland to Eugene through the Willamette Valley, with several spurs into the Northern Oregon Coast Range, and it includes the Willamette and Pacific Railroad as a subsidiary. The railroad handles more than 90,000 carloads a year of commodities such as woodchips, paper, agricultural goods and aggregates for customers including Georgia Pacific and Stimson Lumber Company, and it leases track to TriMet for the Westside Express Service commuter rail line between Beaverton and Wilsonville.
