Oregon and California Railroad

The Oregon and California Railroad was formed from the Oregon Central Railroad after that company completed a twenty mile stretch of track south of Portland in 1869, which qualified the line for federal land grants in California. Construction was completed over Siskiyou Summit in 1887, after which the Southern Pacific Railroad assumed control of operations, with the formal sale of the company completed on January 3, 1927; its route was later spun off as the Central Oregon and Pacific Railroad.
