St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad

The St. Johnsbury and Lamoille County Railroad was a railroad serving rural northern Vermont for over a century, reorganized under that name in 1948 from a line whose construction began in 1869. Track deterioration and flood damage made the roughly 194 mile route uneconomical to repair, forcing its closure in 1995; the state of Vermont has since been converting the right of way into the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail.
