Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway

The Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway was an American railroad chartered in Texas in 1873 to build a line from Galveston to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and headquartered in Galveston. By 1886 it connected major Texas cities including Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston, with extensions into Oklahoma and Louisiana, when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway purchased it and ran it as an operating subsidiary until fully absorbing it in 1965. Its remaining track today forms part of the BNSF Railway system.
