Grand Junction Railway

The Grand Junction Railway was an early railway company in the United Kingdom that existed between 1833 and 1846. The line it built, opened in 1837, linked the Liverpool and Manchester Railway to Birmingham via Warrington, Crewe, Stafford and Wolverhampton, making it the first trunk railway completed in England and arguably the world's first long-distance railway operated with steam traction. It terminated at Curzon Street Station in Birmingham, sharing platforms there with the London and Birmingham Railway for a through connection between Liverpool, Manchester and London.
