Colne and Trawden Light Railway Company

The Colne and Trawden Light Railway Company operated an electric tramway in Colne and Trawden, Lancashire, between 1903 and 1934, established under the Colne and Trawden Light Railways Order 1901. Construction began on May 19, 1903 and services started on November 28, 1903, with the network eventually reaching about seven miles including an extension to Trawden and a branch to Laneshawbridge that connected with the Nelson Corporation Tramways. On March 24, 1914 the Colne Corporation bought the whole system and renamed it Colne Corporation Light Railways. Over its operating life the tramcars covered more than 4.58 million miles and carried 57.5 million passengers before the system closed on January 6, 1934.
