South Eastern Railway (England)

The South Eastern Railway was a British railway company that served south-eastern England from 1836 until 1922, originally incorporated as the South Eastern and Dover Railway to build a route connecting London to Dover. It operated an extensive network across Kent, eastern Sussex and London's suburbs, absorbing or leasing other lines including the London and Greenwich Railway and the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. In 1899 it agreed to share operations and pool revenues with its rival the London, Chatham and Dover Railway, and it ceased independent operation on 1 January 1923 when it became a constituent of the Southern Railway.
