London and Blackwall Railway

The London and Blackwall Railway (LBR) was a railway carried on a brick viaduct through the East End of London, England. It opened for passenger service on July 6, 1840, running between Blackwall and Minories, and was extended to Fenchurch Street in the City of London on August 2, 1841, serving docklands stations including Shadwell, Limehouse, West India Docks and Poplar, with later branches to Bow, Millwall Docks and North Greenwich. The company became part of the London and North Eastern Railway in 1923 and then British Railways in 1948; passenger service east of Stepney ended on May 4, 1926, and sections of its abandoned viaduct were later reused for the Docklands Light Railway, which opened in 1987.
