Swiss Federal Railways

Swiss Federal Railways, known by the initials SBB in German, CFF in French and FFS in Italian reflecting Switzerland's three main national languages, is Switzerland's principal national railway company, headquartered in Bern and majority owned by the Swiss state. It was formed in 1902 when Switzerland nationalized its largest private railway companies, consolidating them into one national operator. SBB runs a dense passenger and freight network built around Switzerland's mountainous terrain, and Swiss rail travel is known internationally for its punctuality and for the coordinated clock-face timetable that SBB and its regional partners use to schedule connections across the country.
