Sverdlovsk Railway

Sverdlovsk Railway is a subsidiary of Russian Railways headquartered in Yekaterinburg, the city formerly named Sverdlovsk from which it takes its name. It operates more than 7,150 kilometers of track across five Russian regions, Perm, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Yugra and Yamalo-Nenets, including a heavily used stretch of the Trans-Siberian Railway and the Yekaterinburg classification yard, one of the largest such facilities in Europe. Its core lines date to the late nineteenth century, beginning with the Perm-Yekaterinburg line in 1879, and it also runs the Yamal Railway Company, a joint venture with Gazprom established in 2003 to serve Siberian gas fields.
