The Royal Hanoverian State Railways was the state-owned railway company of the Kingdom of Hanover, established because no private sponsors could be found to build the kingdom's first rail lines. It existed from 1843 and eventually operated about 800 kilometres of track. Its assets transferred to the Prussian state railways after Prussia annexed Hanover following the 1866 war.
