Fort Pitt Brewing Company

Fort Pitt Brewing Company was a brewery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1906 and opened in 1908, with additional plants in Sharpsburg and Jeannette. It became the top-selling beer brand in Pittsburgh by 1949, but a 1952 labor strike forced it to rush spoiled beer to market ahead of competitors, causing a 40 percent sales decline it never fully recovered from. After the death of company president Michael Berardino in 1957, the company stopped brewing and sold its brand rights to Baltimore's Gunther Brewing Company for 1.3 million dollars. Pittsburgh attorney Mark Dudash revived the Fort Pitt name in 2014 under new ownership linked to the Duquesne Brewing Company, drawing on the name of a British Army brewery that had operated at Fort Pitt since 1765.
