Wipro Limited is an Indian information technology services and consulting company headquartered in Bangalore, one of the largest IT services companies in India. It was founded in 1945 by Mohamed Premji as Western India Vegetable Products Limited, originally a maker of vegetable and refined oils, and only began its transformation into a technology company decades later under Premji's son Azim Premji, who took over leadership in 1966 and steered the business into computing and software services from the 1980s onward. Wipro now provides IT consulting, software development, business process outsourcing and cloud and cybersecurity services to corporate clients around the world. The company remains substantially controlled by the Premji family alongside its public shareholders.
