Weyerhaeuser Company is an American timberland and forest products company headquartered in Seattle, Washington, one of the largest private owners of timberlands in North America. It was founded in 1900 by German American businessman Frederick Weyerhaeuser, who purchased extensive tracts of timberland in the Pacific Northwest, and grew over the twentieth century into a major integrated forest products company spanning logging, wood products and pulp and paper. In 2010 Weyerhaeuser converted to a real estate investment trust structure, reflecting the shift of its core business toward owning and managing timberland as a long-term land asset. The company manages millions of acres of timberland across the United States and also operates wood products manufacturing and real estate development businesses.
