Wabash Railroad

The Wabash Railroad was an American Class I railroad, founded in 1837 and headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, that carried freight and passengers across the mid-central United States, with track in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan and Missouri as well as the Canadian province of Ontario. Its principal advantage was offering a direct freight route between Kansas City and Detroit that bypassed both St. Louis and Chicago. The Wabash was leased to the Norfolk and Western Railway in 1964 and formally merged into it in 1991.
