Veritas Technologies LLC is an American data management company headquartered in Santa Clara, California. Its origins lie in Tolerant Systems, founded in 1983 and later renamed Veritas Software, which specialised in storage management software, including the first commercial journaling file system, and in backup products such as Backup Exec and NetBackup. Before merging with Symantec in 2004, Veritas was listed on the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ-100. In 2014 Symantec announced it would demerge its information management business as Veritas Technologies, and the private equity firm the Carlyle Group bought it for 8 billion dollars in cash in 2016. Its data protection and data security unit was sold to Cohesity in 2024, and the remaining part later spun off as an independent company called Arctera.
