Companies and Brands

Named businesses and their consumer-facing brands, from founding-era firms such as Standard Oil to today's largest public companies, organized below into the eleven Global Industry Classification Standard sectors by each company's primary business activity. A standalone consumer brand with no clearly separate parent company mints here too, distinct from an industry entity that names the sector itself rather than any one firm within it. Excludes: the industry sectors a company operates in, catalogued under Industries as their own organizing structure rather than duplicated here; the founders and executives who built or ran a company, catalogued under Founders, Executives and Management Thinkers and cross-linked to the company rather than described twice; and historic trading companies whose primary significance is historical rather than as an ongoing modern enterprise, which History catalogues (the Muscovy Company, the Fuggers, the Dutch West India Company) with a same-as edge back here where the company still exists in some form.
