Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK is the British manufacturing subsidiary of Toyota, established in 1989. Its main factory is at Burnaston in Derbyshire and its engine factory is at Deeside in North Wales. Its first car, a Carina E, rolled off the line on 16 December 1992, and the Burnaston factory was officially opened on 4 June 1993. Construction of the Burnaston plant began in March 1990 and the engine factory at Deeside opened in September 1992, shortly before car production began. The plant has also built the Avensis and the Auris, and the first Avensis batch of its second generation was exported to Japan in 2003.
