Toyota Auto Body is a Toyota group maker of vehicle bodies, headquartered in Kariya, Aichi, and established in 1945 after a corporate spin off from Toyota. It started by producing auto bodies and has plants in the Mie and Aichi prefectures and other facilities in Japan and abroad. It was set up on 31 August 1945 as a spin off of the Kariya plant and in 1951 became the first Japanese maker of an all steel truck body. In the 2000s it absorbed the vehicle building of Araco and Gifu Auto Body, and it now makes minivans, SUVs and light commercial vehicles.
