Toshiba is a Japanese multinational electronics company headquartered in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, with diversified products spanning power and industrial infrastructure, electronic components, semiconductors and, historically, personal computers and home appliances. Its name derives from Tokyo Shibaura Denki, formed in a 1939 merger of Shibaura Seisaku-sho, founded in 1875, and Tokyo Denki, founded in 1890; it officially adopted the Toshiba Corporation name in 1978 and is credited as the inventor of flash memory.
