The Progressive Corporation is an American insurance company headquartered in Mayfield Village, Ohio, founded in 1937 by Joseph Lewis and Jack Green as an auto insurer focused on higher-risk drivers other insurers avoided. It grew into one of the largest providers of automobile insurance in the United States, known for early adoption of direct-to-consumer sales, usage-based insurance pricing and its long-running advertising character Flo.
